COMPUTER POWER SUPPLY PSU FAULT TROUBLESHOOTING & REPAIR

Symptoms
PC not powering on.

Troubleshooting
Remove PSU and check by bridging green and black wire, to confirm PSU normal operation.

Solution
Replace bad capacitors, or if beyond repair replace PSU.

Precautions
PSU must be removed from mains at all times.  The larger capacitors can withhold a charge even when unplugged from the mains.  Only replace capacitors with their equivalent, and take care to get their polarity the right way round.

Tools required
Philips screwdriver, container to keep screws etc, soldering iron, solder , well lit and comfortable antistatic workspace.
